Our Vision

Our long term goal is to establish a community based complex (not unlike a retirement village) for 20 people in the Mt Barker district.

This will enable people who live in the hills districts to relocate to a home away from home, in a familiar environment and close to family and friends.

The core of the village would consist of a group home, which would accommodate 4 people with severe disabilities with 24 hour care, an administration centre and recreational area.

Surrounding the core would be a cluster of single and double units that would accommodate 16 other people whose disabilities vary from moderate to high need.

The Plan
Development will be in several phases.

The first step is the house for 4 people whose needs are urgent.

It is then visualised that additional units will follow in separate phases. Residents will be living in comfortable and secure supported accommodation that includes a core house with a recreational component that will allow others from the community to share activities.

The project is huge but because of the very high demand for accommodation we feel that it can’t happen soon enough.

Independence from families for people with intellectual disabilities is so very important. With a ratio of 1 in 5 people in the community at large, who have a degree of intellectual disability, it’s time more was done.
